About Kanpai
Kanpai! The Japanese term for cheers often marks the start of a fantastic evening with friends, family, or colleagues, accompanied by a fine bottle of sake. With Kanpai, we aim to recreate this sense of conviviality, and our selection of quality sake and other Japanese beverages guarantees it.
Sake is enjoying a rapid rise worldwide. Its smooth, elegant flavor and unique character appeal not only to enthusiasts of Japanese gastronomy and culture, but in major cities like Paris, London, and New York, sake has become a staple in top restaurants. Kanpai aims to introduce a wide range of quality sake to the Belgian market. The carefully curated selection allows you to discover artisanal breweries, centuries-old traditions, and a variety of unique and surprising styles.
Sake is rightly praised for its refinement and gastronomic versatility, but Japan has more to offer in the field of artisanal beverages. Kanpai is the first in Belgium to market Japanese liqueurs and distillates in addition to sake.
About Peter Kupers
Peter is the driving force behind Kanpai. His passion for Japan led him to study Japaneseology and live there for a time, while a detour through wine instilled in him a love of sake. Because thorough selection requires a solid foundation of knowledge, he earned the WSET Level 3 award in Sake from the renowned Wine & Spirits Education Trust a few years ago. He was also one of the first Europeans to earn the prestigious Sake Diploma from the Japanese Sommelier Association and has continued his education as a Sake Scholar.
At Kanpai, he is responsible for selecting the producers we work with, and he passionately preaches the sake gospel during events and presentations.
